“Race for Spanish Speedster: Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham ‘Lock Horns’
According to a report from The Telegraph, Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea team has taken notice of the impressive progress made by Nico Williams at Athletic Bilbao, placing the young talent on their radar for potential recruitment. However, Chelsea may face competition from both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, as recent reports have linked these North London clubs to Williams as well. The Mirror stated in February that Arsenal has been actively scouting the 21-year-old attacking sensation. Similarly, Sportslens journalist Dean Jones hinted at Tottenham’s interest in Williams, who has been performing exceptionally well for Athletic Bilbao.
While Chelsea is reportedly prioritizing the signing of a striker, with Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko among their top targets, Williams has also captured their attention. Sources suggest that Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal may need to prepare to pay around £43 million to acquire the services of the Athletic Bilbao player, which is said to be his release clause.
Regarding salary expectations, it is reported that Williams currently earns £100,000 per week after tax in Spain. This figure would likely need to be matched or exceeded by Chelsea, Arsenal, or Tottenham to secure his services.
Williams emerges as a promising prospect for all three clubs, possessing both talent and speed. Despite being only 21 years old, he has already accumulated over 100 appearances for Athletic Bilbao, contributing to 36 goals and assists combined. Furthermore, he has earned 11 caps for the Spanish national team, finding the net twice. Notably, Williams has been praised for his exceptional athleticism, with some even suggesting that he may be faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Despite signing a new contract just last year, Williams’ release clause is believed to have remained unchanged, potentially signaling an opportunity for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham to pursue him.
As the transfer window approaches, the competition for one of Spain’s brightest talents promises to be an intriguing affair for football enthusiasts to follow.
