NFL Unveils Two Exclusive Streaming Matches for 2024 Season
The NFL is set to break new ground in the 2024 season with the announcement of two streaming-only games, revealed by NFL executive vice president of media distribution, Hans Schroeder.
One of these groundbreaking matches will take place during Week 1 in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 6. This event will be exclusively streamed on Peacock, featuring a face-off between the Philadelphia Eagles and an as-yet-unannounced opponent at Corinthians Arena.
Schroeder emphasized the NFL’s commitment to adapting to changing media consumption habits, stating, “As media consumption habits evolve, the NFL continues to work with our partners to put our games on digital platforms where our fans are increasingly spending their time.”
Viewership success from previous streaming ventures, such as Thursday Night Football on Prime Video and the historic Wild Card game on Peacock last season, underscores the resonance of streaming distribution among NFL fans.
The Week 1 game in São Paulo will also be accessible for free via over-the-air broadcast television in the markets of the competing teams, ensuring broad access for viewers.
Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports, expressed excitement about Peacock’s exclusive showcase of the NFL’s inaugural regular-season game in Brazil, highlighting the platform’s continued commitment to delivering top-tier sports streaming experiences.
In addition to Peacock’s streaming initiative, Amazon’s Prime Video, which currently hosts Thursday Night Football, will exclusively stream a Wild Card playoff game this season, marking another milestone in the NFL’s digital expansion.
Jay Marine, global head of sports and ads at Prime Video, emphasized the platform’s dedication to enhancing fan experiences, following successful ventures like Thursday Night Football and the Black Friday Football game.
The Wild Card playoff game on Prime Video will also be accessible over-the-air for free in the local markets of the participating teams, ensuring widespread coverage.
In further announcements, the NFL revealed that the 2024 NFL/Hall of Fame Game will feature the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans, scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1 at 8:00 pm ET in Canton, Ohio.
Additionally, the 2024 NFL schedule will include two games on Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25 (Week 17). Teams playing on Christmas Day will complete their Week 16 matches on Saturday, Dec. 21, in a move aimed at enhancing the holiday football experience for fans.
