Novak Djokovic Surprises Tennis World with Coach Goran Ivanisevic Breakup Ahead of Clay Season
World No. 1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic, has unexpectedly ended his partnership with Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic. Djokovic took to his Instagram account to announce their mutual split after collaborating since 2018.
Ivanisevic, a former professional player who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2, played a pivotal role in refining Djokovic’s serve, elevating it to one of his strongest assets. Together, they clinched nine Grand Slam titles during their six-year tenure.
Djokovic addressed the surprising decision in a dedicated Instagram post, revealing that they had decided to part ways just a few days prior. Notably absent from this year’s Miami Open, Djokovic’s last tournament alongside Ivanisevic was at Indian Wells, where he suffered a disappointing third-round defeat to Italian player Luca Nardi.
Expressing gratitude for their time together, Djokovic reminisced about their on-court chemistry and unwavering friendship. Despite the professional split, Djokovic fondly recalled their friendly rivalry in the game of Parchisi, highlighting the enduring bond beyond tennis. He concluded the post with a heartfelt acknowledgment to Ivanisevic, affectionately referring to him as “Šefinjo.”
As Djokovic strives to bounce back from a lackluster start to 2024, marked by the end of his 43-match unbeaten streak on Australian soil and an early exit at the Australian Open, he is set to return to action at the upcoming Monte Carlo ATP event. However, it remains uncertain whether Djokovic will continue with the rest of his coaching team, including fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapists Miljan Amanovic and Claudio Zimaglia. Additionally, the future role of his hitting partner, Carlos Gomez Herrera, who assumed interim team manager duties last season, remains undisclosed by the world No. 1.
